Evangel Temple Women’s Ministry hosted a luncheon for the pastors’ wives during the Alabama District Council in April 2006 in the ECA gym. There were many pastors’ wives in attendance, and Evangel Temple ladies served as greeters and servers. The keynote speaker for this event was Alabama First Lady, Patsy Riley.
Cindy Hill with Studio South presented a fashion show during the meal. The ministerial wives and support staff ladies participated in this event by walking among the tables sporting their spring clothes and handbags.
Mrs. Riley gave a very inspirational talk, motivating the pastors’ wives in their role of leadership. A memorable moment during the talk was when Mrs. Riley urged the ladies to stand up at their tables and sing “Row, Row, Row your Boat.” She used this song to make the point that we as women cannot always solve the problems of others, sometimes not even our own family’s situations; we should leave the solutions in God’s hands. We strive to row our own boats, not someone else’s boat.
In addition to the wonderful meal catered by Tia Grady with The King’s Table, fashion show, and speech, several door prizes were awarded.
Girls' Night Out
On May 5, 2006, Evangel Temple Women’s Ministries hosted a Girls Nights Out, a special time of food, fellowship, and fun for ladies. Mathamarie and Me, a Christian comedian, was the keynote speaker. The Women’s Ministries director, Beverly Carroll was the emcee for the event. Many of the ladies present received wonderful door prizes.
During the evening, a tiny tots fashion show was held. Small children and even babies, accompanied by their mothers, paraded down the center aisle of the room. Some of the children rode in their little red wagons, some walked, and some were carried. They were all dressed beautifully in casual as well as dressy clothes.
After the fashion show, Martha Marie was introduced. She was extremely entertaining and funny. One remark that stood out was at the end when she told the group that “they were not special, and to tell their husbands they were not special, either.” This comment was not a put down but rather to make a point that we are all the same in that everyone has problems in life.
