Who we are @ Ground Zero Youth Church:

@ Ground Zero (GZ), we are about relationships and loving others above ourselves! It is about making the best choices and having a clear picture into our purpose in this life. At GZ, we chose to be different yet relevant to this generation of leaders. Our relationship with Jesus Christ is that difference. We are committed to making GZ youth church a safe, encouraging, uplifting and friendly environment for every student. We are committed to meeting every individual need of every type of student - exactly where they are. Our mission statement is that of letting, “The mind of the Master being the Master of our minds!“ If you seek a purpose in life then you came to the right place.

Beliefs:

The Scriptures: We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit to write the Scripture. Therefore, the Bible is without error.

God: We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to man and to become the Savior of the lost.

Mankind: We believe that man was created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him, but became alienated from that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, man is totally incapable of coming back into a right relationship with God by his own effort.

Salvation: We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore, salvation only occurs when a person places their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for their sin.

The Christian Life: We believe that every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word and daily yielding to the Spirit, every believer should mature and become conformed to the image of Christ.

The Church: We believe that the church is the body of Christ of which Jesus Christ is the Head. The members are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to a lost world.

Purpose:

GZ and its EDGE leadership teams believe in reaching out to each and every young person. No matter where they are now or have been. We are a safe place where we worship freely and experience God in a greater way. We believe in having a good time and enjoying being around other young people our own age. The beauty of GZ is the students and how they want to get so involved in this ministry. We truly feel that God has a plan and a message for those who attend GZ each week (a message for a believer and a non-believer.) We want Him to receive all the glory for the lives He has changed through Ground Zero youth church.

Life:

What is life all about? What’s my role in life? Grow up, breathe, pay taxes, and die? What does it mean to live for God? We’ve got all these things that surround our life - friends, school, sports, family, partying - but at the center of it all is our relationship with God.

So, what does it all mean? Living as if God were real and important to me!

Why?

1. It gives me a reason to live.
2. It makes my decisions clearer.
3. It gives my life meaning.

FAQ:

Q: What is Ground Zero?
A: GZ is a safe place for me to be around students who don’t think any less about me or judge me. It is a Student-lead ministry of Evangel in Montgomery, Alabama.

Q: What happens at GZ?
A: It is a place that I can bring a friend and feel like someone is listening to me. A place that offers live music in a facility suited for teens like you. Where games, and fun go hand in hand. GZ / Oskies doors open at 5:30 for game room time: Food, Xboxes,  pool, pin pong (soon), as well as basketball. Wednesday night service begins at 6:30. The doors close at 8:30 that night.

Q: Can I show up late or leave early?
A: If you want to come, we want you to be here! But, we have a few guidelines that help us take good care of our guests each week. Each Wednesday, our services for 6 - 12th grades start at 6:30pm, so we ask that you show up by 6:30 or you will miss too much. We also ask that you do not plan on leaving until service ends at 8:00pm.

Q: How old is “too old and how young is “too young”?
A: Ground Zero is a place created specifically for teenagers, so you need to be a teenager. If you are not yet 12, or in end of your 6th grade - sorry - you’ll have to wait. But don’t worry; we’re not going anywhere and we are only gonna get better. So relax, we will see you soon! If you’re 19 or out of High School, the time has come for us to part ways and for you to move into our Edge group. Unless, of course, you are a member of The Edge and you want to help us serve teenagers each week. If that’‘ the case, stop by Pastor Chris’s to meet and interview to help. We as a staff are very protective of our teens here @ Ground Zero youth church.

Q: Do I need to bring money?
A: The only thing that costs money at GZ is the incredible food @ Oskies. All of the video games, billiards tables and everything else is free. So if your stomach talking to you, bring a little bit of money so you can talk back. Otherwise, relax - it’s on the house.

TTN - Target The Nation Drama Team

This was a vision inspired by God of putting together a group of students who love ministering in a new, relevant way. These students minister through what is called human videos (a message through Christian music dramatization) skits, and DVD videos. We believe that this ministry team is opening the doors to those who need to be ministered to in a new way. They allow God to use them without speaking a word, only by their actions. Pastor Chris says all the time, “They may never remember what you said, but they will always remember what you did.“ We are hoping that this ministry team will grow and change lives. We are always looking for new students to join us and help be a part of a fresh vision, and a move, in targeting this nation for God! Montgomery look out we start our teams the last week in May. See you then!
