What to Expect

It’s not always easy visiting a new church for the first time. Sometimes you feel like you’re visiting an exclusive club and you’re an outsider.

Should I be here? Am I really welcome? Will the people be unfriendly or will they smother me like a salesperson? Will I be conspicuous? Can I leave if I don’t enjoy it? Do I have to contribute? How should I dress? What about my kids? What if I don’t believe?

We want to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. We want Evangel to be an inviting place - no matter your background - whether you’ve gone to church your entire life or whether this is your first time. Here’s a brief overview of what you can expect:

First of all, we are located at 3975 Vaughn Road. You can enter and park in any of our three entrances off Vaughn Road. There is good signage that should help you find your way.

If you arrive at 9:00, we have a variety of Growth Groups available. These groups/classes are great opportunities to get involved and plug in with people in similar life situations. We have classes available for children, students and adults. Check out the full list of our Sunday groups here.

Our service begins at 10:00 AM in the main auditorium. When you walk in, there should be some friendly people to say hello, answer any questions you may have, and direct you to the main auditorium. If you have kids or young people, they can also direct you to our ministries that are appropriate for them.  Your kids are also welcome to attend the adult service with you, but most kids will really enjoy our “Kidtricity” children’s programs for infants through 5th grade. Our students (6th grade and up) join us for our main service. Whatever your age, we’ve got something for everyone.

You’ll notice that everyone is dressed comfortably, in anything from “office casual” to blue jeans to a suits and ties. Come as you are. Dress comfortable. You’ll never be dressed “incorrectly.“ If you arrive early, please stop by our cafe in the back of the main auditorium and help yourself to some coffee and pastries.

You will see displays throughout the auditorium that will tell you more about the week’s activities as well as let you know when service is about to start. Our service usually begins with some upbeat music, worship and prayer. We enjoy a contemporary worship experience with a full band, praise team and choir.

There is no pressure or “norm” for worshiping at Evangel. You can lift your hands, clap, sing, sit or stand.

Pastor Mike will deliver a message which we hope will challenge and encourage you in your life. We will always provide you with an opportunity to know Christ and to invite Him to be part of your life. He is the center of all we do.

We do take up an offering during the service, but this is for our regular attenders. You are our honored guest. Please do not feel any pressure to give or contribute in any way. We are just thrilled to have you with us!

After the service, you can pick up your kids from their activities and then we hope you’ll stay around, meet some people and enjoy some coffee, donuts, and bagels. Evangel is about Christ and worship, but we also want to build community and friendships. Our welcome center is in the back of the auditorium (conveniently located right by the food!) so please stop by and say hello. We’d enjoy the chance to meet you.

That’s about it. We’d love to see you this week!
